Art of
Noise

Where sound becomes electricity

British avant-garde collective Art of Noise dismantled the idea of what music is supposed to sound like — and built something electric from the pieces. Produced by Trevor Horn, their work in the 1980s invented textures before there was language for them. "Moments in Love" is nine minutes of pure atmosphere. "Close (To the Edit)" is a machine's heartbeat. This is sound as art as architecture.
